Local Advisory Group
Governors, volunteers who commit their time to work alongside the leadership team of the academy, play an important part in raising academy standards. The Governing body of Hamilton Academy is called a Local Advisory Group, this is smaller than usual governing body.
Governance has a strong focus on three core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the principal to account for the educational performance of the academy and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the academy and making sure its money is well spent.
At Hamilton Academy the Local Advisory Group meets regularly to meet the first two of these functions and other responsibilities. The oversight of the academy’s financial performance is carried out at Trust governance level. The governors also visit the academy to ensure they understand what is happening and to monitor and evaluate the impact of actions.
Governors can be contacted through the academy. Any parent or staff governor vacancies are advertised through the academy communication systems and if necessary a ballot takes place to elect the new governor.
